There was a clear sky on Saturday for our 3rd annual NatureFest at Tilghman Lake Park in La Plata — one that brought everyone outside. With just enough of a breeze to keep our paperweights handy, a bright sun gave some much-welcomed warmth to lots of little hands and arms of families holding puppies, chicks, ducklings, and birds. The following hours were a blur: collecting free native seedlings, building paper crowns, learning about agriculture, exploring how bees make honey, and collecting leaves to feed the goats. As the day passed, the wind picked up and brought in a downpour that held off just long enough for us to get cleaned up. As the rain pelleted the grass and lake, families drove off with their newly-made creations and their new animal friends made their way home.
