what's a b-e-e?

A spelling bee is a competition where contestants are asked to spell English words. The Spelling Bee is an important academic tradition and one that challenges children to perform at their best. In addition to motivating children to achieve academically, this event is an important stepping-stone to the County Spelling Bee Competition students may enter in middle school.

NCAC's Scripps Spelling Bee Practice

We are grateful to be one of the only approved homeschool co-ops in Southern Maryland participating in the Scripps National Spelling Bee! So that means your child can, too.

This Scripps Spelling is for homeschoolers who would like to participate in the County Spelling Bee and have the opportunity to win and compete in the next-level competitions. We'll be having weekly practices, mock competitions, and you'll get a spot on our official team to compete at the county level (or further!).

Instructor: Ms. Miriam Joy

Day & Time: Mondays,  5:30–6:30 PM

Dates: October 13–November 17

Duration: 6 sessions (one hour each)

2025 Winning Moment

Watch the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals Winning Moment, and meet 13-year-old Faizan Zaki, the winner of the 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee!

We host a team each year for the Scripps Spelling Bee in Southern Maryland, and you can join the team by joining our Scripps Spelling Bee preparatory class.

We hit the jackpot when we discovered Neighborhood Creative Arts Center! My kids have been a part of Ms. Georgia's co-op (EFH) for almost 2 years and they absolutely love it. They have also participated in her choir, spelling bee, and The Thinking Kid program and to say they loved them would be an understatement. Ms. Georgia and her family/staff are some of the most kindhearted, patient, generous and hardworking people I have ever met.
