NCAC ART ACADEMY
Individualized Art Instruction for Developing Artists
NCAC's Art Academy offers individualized instruction for students who want to develop their artistic skills through consistent, one-on-one study.
Unlike our stand-alone art classes and workshops, Art Academy students work individually with an instructor throughout the academic year. Lessons build upon one another as students develop technique, confidence, creativity, and their own artistic voice.
2026–2027 Art Academy
September 2026–June 2027
60-minute individual lessons
In-person and virtual options available

Individual Art Lessons
Every artist develops differently. Individual lessons allow our instructors to meet students where they are and build instruction around their interests, experience, goals, and preferred artistic media.
Depending upon the student and instructor, areas of study may include:
-
Drawing and observational skills
-
Painting
-
Sculpture
-
Mixed media
-
Line, shape, value, color, proportion, and composition
-
Exploration of different artistic materials and techniques
-
Creative expression and development of personal artistic style
-
Portfolio development
Students may focus deeply on one medium or explore several throughout the year.

Designed for constant student improvement
Students develop skills progressively, building upon previous work while pursuing increasingly independent and sophisticated projects.
Our goal is not simply to teach students how to reproduce a particular picture or project. We want students to develop the skills, confidence, curiosity, and creative independence that allow them to make art of their own.
Because instruction is individual, NCAC's Art Academy can serve students at many different stages—from a child beginning art study to an experienced teen developing a portfolio for college admissions.
At the beginning of the year, families may identify the artistic media they are most interested in studying as well as any previous private art experience. Instructors then develop lessons appropriate to the student's interests and level.
Art academy showcase
Throughout the year, students will develop a collection of work reflecting their artistic growth.
Art Academy students will have the opportunity to select and prepare work for an end-of-year Art Academy Showcase, giving family and friends an opportunity to celebrate what students have created and accomplished during the year.
