If you haven’t heard of boomwhackers, you’re missing out! These awesome plastic pipes, which are tuned to play different notes, are loads of fun to play and a great tool to develop note and rhythm reading, along with teamwork! At this workshop, we will start with boomwhacker tunes (Pirates of the Carribean and Star Wars) and then advance into using state of the art handchimes.

Students will be divided into groups by age and ability. Beginners will be introduced to musical notation, rhythm, and the musical alphabet through games and exercises. They will learn songs on the piano and perform in class groups. A portion of the program will be spent in our piano lab (one child per piano), and the other will be in an open classroom space where students will explore musical activities through song and movement.

For our more advanced musicians, we will focus on advanced music theory, composing, chord progressions, and reading lead sheets. We will learn about interpreting music and performing it in a meaningful style. We will also talk about various methods of memorizing and preparing for performances. Parents are welcome to join us for our fabulous final concert on the last day of our workshop!
